The Lake Powell Pipeline is a water delivery project that will transport water to many southern Utah communities.

The LPP: A Key to Our Long-Term Water Future

The Lake Powell Pipeline (LPP) is part of a comprehensive, long-term water supply plan for southern Utah that includes new resource development and increased water conservation.

The LPP will transport water from Lake Powell through an approximately 140-mile buried pipeline to Washington County. Five pump stations will move the water through the pipeline. Six hydroelectric facilities will supply a portion of the energy needed to operate the pump stations.

At full capacity, the project will deliver up to 83,756 acre feet of water per year. Cities and towns benefiting from the project include St. George, Washington, Hurricane, Santa Clara, Ivins, La Verkin, Toquerville, Leeds, Virgin and Apple Valley.

Southern Utah’s population is projected to exceed 500,000 people by 2065. Meeting the community’s water needs will require ongoing conservation, water development projects and agricultural water transfers.
